We are back with the next installment of our Meet the Providers series! This month, we’re featuring Stephanie Ehlers, MSN, CNM, WHNP-BC. Stephanie is the newest addition to Triangle Physicians for Women team. We were so impressed with her that we brought her on to our team full-time as soon as she completed her Master of Science degree in Nursing with a dual focus as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. We wanted to take a moment to give our patients a chance to learn more about Stephanie and her accomplishments. At TP4W, we believe in providing top-notch health care for women, and we recognize that in order to achieve that, it’s important for our patients to feel like they know their providers. I am originally from a small town in Pennsylvania but have lived in North Carolina since 2010. My medical career started in the Army in 2005, working as a healthcare administrator. After eight years of service, I pursued a career in nursing and worked in various roles, including Cardiac Step-down/Medical Surgical, Post Partum, and Labor & Delivery. My love for Women’s Health led me to pursue more education, completing my Master of Science degree in Nursing with a dual focus as a Certified Nurse Midwife & Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. I was fortunate to complete my last round of clinicals with Triangle Physicians for Women and to join the practice after graduation.

Particular Areas of Interest

- Labor Support for both medicated and unmedicated
- Sexual Health Education
- Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Care
Why were you interested in the field you’re in, and what got you into it?
While in the Army, I found there was a great need for care focused on just women. When I left the Army and became a Nurse, I naturally found myself being pulled into Women’s Health and found my home in Labor and Delivery. As an L&D nurse, I had the opportunity to work with many fine Midwives, which made me love the profession and long to be working beside them. During my clinical rotations, I developed a deep love for both labor & delivery and the clinical side as I found I could really make an impact during clinicals and get to know patients better.
What motivates you?
The people I have the opportunity to serve. Each person deserves the whole heart of a midwife and to be treated like they are the first and only patient of the day. They deserve to feel heard and validated and to leave feeling better than when they came in.
Do you have a particular philosophy or outlook when practicing medicine and providing care?
Education is so important to help patients feel empowered in their care so that they can make informed decisions about their health. I believe that listening to my patients and allowing them to feel accepted and heard while supporting them in their journey provides the best care.

I spent eight years on active duty in the Army and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. While serving in the Army, I jumped out of airplanes and slept in -30 degree weather while training in Alaska! In my spare time, I love to go to Carolina Hurricanes Hockey games (I’m a hockey fanatic), ride my peloton or go to Orange Theory, sit by the pool, and spend time with my husband, mom, friends, and three incredible daughters.
